iPeng has released a new version of its popular software app that can turn your iPhone or iTouch into a full-featured remote control for Squeezebox products. With iPeng, the user has full control over his or her music library. One can use it to control one Squeezebox or many devices in a network.

The app displays handsome screens, including full-color album covers, and since it works through the WI-FI network in your home, you can control the Squeezebox from any location that is within range of the network.

The designer claims the following for the new version:

  • New look and icon
  • New user interface handling ambiguous functionality through Context Menus instead of modes
  • New MultiPlayer control page that allows for easier player management (syncing, moving between sources, etc.)
  • Group Control for synced players
  • Player Context Menu bundling all player features, reachable through the MultiPlayer control
  • Context Menus for the current track and tracks in the current playlist
  • Improved management of current playlist including option to save it
  • Quick tutorials explain the operation of iPeng

Version 1.2 of iPeng is available at the Apple Apps Store for $9.95. Projecting the possible cost of a remote control that would have as many functions as iPeng, the price seems to constitute a real bargain.
