 "Fringe" is ArchivedIn late 1997, Greg Smith mentioned via e-mail that much of
the audio press missed the boat when it came to covering the assortment of audio
equipment on the market. Certainly, there's enough discussion on speakers, amplifiers, and
CD players to keep anyone happy, but what about all the stuff that does not fall neatly
under the stereo-system umbrella? At the time, we referred to these as "fringe"
products, and at the same time SoundStage!'s first monthly column was born.
"Fringe" first appeared in January of
1998 and ended in late 2000, when too much work prevented Greg from contributing his
column on a consistent basis. In the future, we hope to launch a new column that continues
discussion on this vital segment of the market.
